Wild Places
Some places stop you in your tracks. Wild Places is a collection of landscapes that did exactly that — national parks, coastlines, and wilderness areas across America. Shot at the edges of the day, in the seasons most people avoid, in the conditions that make the image worth making.
Sunrise at Tuolumne Meadows Yosemite, May 2026
I captured this moment the morning after Tioga Road opened in late spring. I had spent the night photographing the milky way over Tenaya Lake. This was a very cold morning and most of the meadow was still frozen from melting snow and the early morning frost. The melting snow had created numerous pools of water that beautifully reflected the mountain peaks in the distance. The rising sun created these amazing sky colors that lasted for just a brief moment.
Tunnel View on a wet, foggy morning, April 2026
Yosemite National Park never disappoints. Even a cold, wet, and foggy day can provide for a very moody and unique view of El Capitan and Bridalveil fall with the valley below shrouded in low cloud cover.
Cypress Tree Point Lobos Natural State Reserve, April 2026
This old Cypress Tree looks very much like the more famous Lone Cypress on the 17 mile drive in Monterey, CA. However, unlike the Lone Cypress this one stands on its own, surviving the strong coastal winds.
Cold Reflection, Yellowstone, Jan 2026
Winter in Yellowstone National Park can be brutal but beautiful at the same time. I captured this image in the Mammoth Hot Springs area. With most of the hot springs frozen over, there was this one little pool of water that framed. the reflection of this dead tree just perfectly for this shot.
Lone Pine in Golden Light at Olmsted Point, May 2026
I happened to chance upon this lone pine tree high on a granite rock near Olmsted point. I loved how the light of the setting sun lit up the tree. Getting Half Dome in the shot was a nice bonus.
Juniper on Fire, May 2026
This was another chance, unplanned sighting in Yosemite National Park. I was taken by how this tree formed a nice arch framed against the setting sun. The lighting was just perfect. The texture of the tree trunk and its shape just created this other worldly look that was hard to pass on.
